Easy Peasy Roasted Brussels Sprouts

I love roasted Brussels sprouts with that nutty, toasty flavor.  We sometimes pick them up at the local grocery store or farmer's market, but recently, with the pandemic and spending more time at home, I thought, perhaps I could try to make them myself.  To be honest, I had no idea how easy this could be, and I had all the ingredients on hand, except the Brussels sprouts.  To make them you need the following items:

baking sheet
parchment paper
olive oil
salt
pepper
plastic bag (large freezer or storage zip-lock type of bag)
cutting board
small knife
bag of Brussels sprouts

I pulled out my cutting board and a small knife and cut off any brown parts and pulled off any brown leaves.  When finished, you can either leave them whole or cut them in half, I left mine whole.  If cutting them in half, please note that you may need to cut down on the baking time (see below).

Next, I rinsed off my Brussels sprouts in a colander and then patted dry with paper towels.

Take your plastic bag and pour in all the Brussels sprouts and then cover them in some olive oil, just enough to coat the sprouts.  Season with salt and pepper to taste and then shake the bag thoroughly to make sure that everything is evenly distributed.

oil and seasoning evenly distributed in the bag

Pour the entire contents of the bag onto a parchment-covered baking sheet. I baked them at 400 degrees for about 35 minutes for the whole sprouts.  If you cut them in half, set a time for between 25-30 minutes, and check it often to make sure they don't burn, mine burned a little the first time I tried this.

When they are done, the Brussels sprouts should have a nice toasty brown color on the outside, yet be soft and tender on the inside.

These were so good and so simple!  Two of us ate all of them at one sitting!  Yum!
